The Higher National Engineering awards are designed to provide each student with engineering knowledge and understanding appropriate to their engineering interests, employment and vocational needs.
BTECs are work-related qualifications for students taking their first steps into employment, or for those already in employment and seeking career development opportunities. BTECs provide progression into the workplace either directly or via study at university and are also designed to meet employers’ needs. Therefore, Pearson BTEC Higher National qualifications are widely recognised by industry and higher education as the principal vocational qualification at Levels 4 and 5.
There is now a greater emphasis on employer engagement and work readiness. The new BTEC Higher National qualifications in Engineering are designed to reflect this increasing need for high quality professional and technical education pathways at Levels 4 and 5. These qualifications provide students with a clear pathway to employment, appropriate support during employment and a recognised progression route to gain the further learning required at Level 6 to achieve Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registration or to the final stages of a degree.
It is possible to study this course as an apprentice. If you already work for an employer who wants to sponsor your apprenticeship, then you need to ask them to call our Employer Services Team on 0300 456 0046 or email employers@warwickshire.ac.uk to ensure that the relevant paperwork is completed.

Provision will be made for all engineering Higher National students to be eligible for grades beyond a pass level.
Assessment is considered an important part of the learning process. In designing the forms of assessment for this award, care has been taken to ensure that all assessments test the skills and knowledge needed in the Engineering working environment. Formative and summative assessment methods are diverse and include problem based assignments, work-based projects requiring oral and written reports, individual exercises, experimental work, work-based assignments and phased tests.
