Course Summary

This is a practical course which aims to develop creative craft skills in visual storytelling. At its core, the course imbeds current discussions on film and screen practices within todays’ filmmaking culture. This is all taught through practical assignments that can be exhibited across different media platforms preparing graduates to engage as global practitioners, whilst contributing to the developing creative industries, and the new ways in which film is now being consumed by audiences. Industry craft skills are taught through production and post-production techniques supported with sustained access to industry standard production equipment and post-production softwares. Course Details - Modules

Modules may include: Year 1 – Level 4: · Learning Craft Skills (part 1): Digital Film Production Techniques; · Learning Craft Skills (part 2): Digital Post-Production Techniques; · Learning from the Masters; · Motion Graphics; · The History of Film; · Employability Skills for the Creative Industry. Year 2 – Level 5: · Professional Filmmaking in Practice (for the festival circuit); · Promoting and Pitching; · Writing for Screen; · Self-Directed Practice and Collaboration for Digital Distribution (year long production project); · Working with a Client (work-based learning). Year 3 - Level 6. · Portfolio and Self-Promotion; · Film Theory: Sensing Cinema Beyond the Text; · Visual Motifs in Storytelling: Fictional Adventures in Filmmaking; · Documentary Film: Capturing the Real or the Aesthetics of Realism. Course Details – Assessment Method

The course is 90% practical and as such involves a lot of production led activities in its approach to teaching and learning. All the coursework will involve production elements which are assessed in relation to your creative skills and ability to engage audiences in your storytelling techniques. There are no examinations on this course
