Standard Qualification Requirements
Applicants will be expected to have a Level 3 qualification and would normally have GCSE English Language at grade 4/C or above, however transferable life skills will be considered in support of an application.Alternative qualifications will be considered on an individual basis, provided that the applicant can also evidence understanding and basic competence in the use of listening/counselling skills. In addition to qualifications/training requirements and due to the nature of the learning experience, applicants are also required to evidence readiness to undertake a counselling/psychotherapy training. A robust reference confirming academic and psychological readiness is required prior to interview and readiness will also be assessed at interview. Ideally the reference will be supplied by a training tutor or employer. Important note: This is a popular course and teaching is in small groups, therefore meeting the entry requirements is not necessarily a guarantee of a place on the course. Once enrolled onto the course, students are required to pay for BACP student membership (see BACP website for current fees) and personal therapy (10 sessions in the first year for full time students or 10 sessions in the second year for part time students). Students will also pay for clinical supervision once on placement. Costs of supervision and personal therapy vary but can cost around £50 per hour although some placements offer in-house supervision or offer a contribution to the cost. In order to complete the mandatory clinical placement, students will be required to obtain a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which is usually paid for by the placement provider.
Entry requirements are for guidance only. We welcome students with equivalent qualifications and combinations. Please contact us to discuss further.
